Becoming a Habitat Homeowner

Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity has partnered with more than 50 families in becoming homeowners.  Basic qualifications for Habitat homeownership are:

  • Need - If you and your family are currently living in substandard housing or subsidized housing

  • Ability to pay - Habitat homes are not given away and require mortgage payments which are interest-free.  You must have an income of 30% - 60% of Vigo County median income and you must be able to pay a monthly mortgage payment of $350 - $500.  Mortgage payments are determined by the Habitat business office and your individual income and expenses are taken into account.

  • Willingness and ability to partner - Each homeowner is required to volunteer a minimum of 250 hours to establish sweat equity in his/her home.

The Family Selection team is accepting applications now.  A pre-application can be filled out at the Habitat office, 2313 Tippecanoe Street, Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.  Contact the office at 235-5914 if you have questions.
